Emmy’s Last Day

2008 August 7

Here I sit, in my office at work.  Today is the LAST DAY I will be sharing this office with the hottest, sexiest, most amazing woman on the planet.  Yes, today is going to be Emily’s last day at work.

Before we even got married, Emily and I decided that we were going to live off my income, no matter how much or how little it would be . . . and use her income for debt reduction until we have children.  This decision was part of our commitment to create a spiritual legacy in our family. Now, less than two months before our first child enters into the world, we have come to the point where we need to make our commitment reality.

God has been extremely good to us.  Our first year of marriage was tough, but we’ve been steadily decreasing our debt ever since.  Selling our house this month will enable us to eliminate almost all of our debt, and even with Emily quitting and little Katie joining us, we should be able to move to Maryland in very good financial shape.  We’re not rich.  We’ve just chosen carefully what to buy and when.  If you “just can’t do it,”  you’re really just saying, “I can’t live within my means.”

I lived fine on less than minimum wage when I was in seminary.  If I did that, you can live on whatever God has provided you.  It just takes careful planning and wise choices.

For those that are at Journey . . . this is what Casey Graham was talking about in the ReThink Money seminar during our MAD MONEY series.

Have you followed through on your commitments?
